Michele and Jake are such a sweet couple! As high school sweethearts they fell in love and after Jake was stationed in Guam (where he was for most of the engagement) the couple couldn’t wait to get married.
We worked mostly with Michele and her mom in the planning process and were there every step of the way. Michele is very much a girly girl and wanted fuchsia as her main color. The bright hue was echoed throughout the reception, which was held at the breath-taking Scripps Seaside Forum.

It’s been almost a year since I had the opportunity to help with a wedding that forever changed my life and my business and since in the process of switching to the new website I need to migrate the info from my blog, I knew that I wanted to revisit Brett and Laura’s wedding and use it as a Featured Wedding on my site.
Last year I was lucky enough to work on a celebration of pure love, powered by an outpouring of support from the San Diego wedding community, which created a very whirlwind week, where we planned a wedding in six days.
You see, we were a part of planning a wedding for an incredibly brave young couple. Brett Fafard and his fiancée of three days, Laura Kemp, have been together for two years, spending much of their time together battling Brett’s cancer. Prior to his diagnosis, Brett was an avid biker, runner, and all around athlete. When he was diagnosed in June 2009, the cancer had already spread to his abdomen, liver, lungs, and neck. Brett has fought the cancer through many rounds of chemo, surgeries, bone marrow transplants, and radiation; however the aggressive disease has continued to spread to his lungs and brain. Doctors estimated he had two months to live.
Laura was a tremendous support, and after many months of contemplating marriage, and one very close call when Brett suffered a grand mal seizure from his brain tumors, it became clear to the couple that they had to marry.
As soon as I heard the story, I knew that the San Diego wedding community would come together to help. And they did. With one mass email and Facebook post about the story, 22 AMAZING San Diego wedding vendors came together to throw Laura and Brett a wedding.
The wedding happened November 12, 2011 as the sun set at Silver Strand State Beach in Coronado.
MANY, MANY thanks to the wedding vendors who came together so quickly and donated their services and talent to help this couple have a very special and memorable wedding.

Courtney and Mark are such a fun couple. They met walking down the street in the midwest. Courtney made the first move when she asked Mark what he was up to that night. They got together for a drink and a few years later, tied the knot in an intimate celebration at Estancia La Jolla.
The wedding was quite interesting to say the least. It turns out that President Bill Clinton, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton were all staying at Estancia during the wedding, which meant from a planning perspective, we had to modify everything we did for set-up (and got pat downs throughout the day).
For the theme of the wedding, we played off one of the bride’s favorite things – lemons. From incorporating them into the centerpieces to using the bright hue for the bridesmaids’ dresses, the wedding was cheery from beginning to end. The ceremony took place on the Garden Courtyard and was performed by Bethel. The couple included some very cool ceremonies – a wine box and hand fasting (email me if you want to know more about these). Check out some of our favorite photos from the wedding.

So many brides and grooms ask us why they should hire a wedding planner or coordinator so we wanted to share some reasons why First Comes Love can help to make your wedding day a huge success.
We Save You Money
That’s right, save money. Your wedding is about celebrating your love. Planning it shouldn’t be about haggling with caterers or worrying whether or not you are getting the best price.
We have the relationship with vendors to negotiate the best prices. We are great with budgets and will work with you to not only create one, but also be sure you stay on track. No matter if it’s big or small.
We Are Flexible To Your Needs
Maybe you want to be more involved and do most of the planning yourself. In that case, have us come out for Wedding Day Management. Every bride needs someone there on the wedding day to coordinate the schedule and details. You and your family and friends don’t need to worry about these things – just show up and enjoy the wedding day. If you want more support, check out our partial and full planning packages.
We Are Always Prepared
Yes, you can depend on your wedding party and your mother, but they are there to help you celebrate. We are like boy scouts with headsets in heels. We can sew on a button, fix a rip, and tend to a blister. We have back-up breath mints, directions to the nearest store, and anything you might could need or want to make your day as perfect as possible.
We Are More Than The Venue Coordinator
The primary role of a venue coordinator is to make sure you are in and out of the venue at your specified times and you don’t break any rules while you’re there. Some may go above and beyond, but that is not the norm.
We are on your side and there just for YOU. We coordinate with all your friends, family and vendors to be sure everyone is where they are supposed to be, keeping your day on schedule and you relaxed and happy.
Call or email us today to set-up a complimentary consultation so we can talk more about your wedding needs.
